The Alpha Historica stock image library is a collection of images primarily from the mid 1800s through the early 1900s – the early history period of photography. While the bulk of our images fall within this time frame, some artwork images predate that period and some photography is as recent as the mid 1900s.
Our library, while not rigidly focused, is nevertheless a focused collection with emphasis in certain areas. One such area is the realm of Christian Faith and it's influential leaders, ministers, hymnists and missionaries. Another area of concentration is the field of Science in various disciplines, including key individuals from both sides of the Evolution vs. Design debate (which continues to this day). A third area of emphasis is The Early Days of Surfing. Lastly, you will find a focus on Abolition and the closely related Civil War in the United States.
Beyond these primary subjects, you will also find artists, writers, government leaders, philosophers, tyrants, musicians, religious leaders, business people, military figures, famous liars and speakers of truth.
We don't cover every subject and we have no desire to ever be a gigantic, generalist stock library. We do, however, seek to be your best option for quality images within the range of subjects we feature. If you are in need of a specific image or subject within the scope of our library but cannot find it within our online collection on the Alamy.com website, please contact us via the the form on our Contact page. Many of our photographs are in the process of being digitized or restored and are not yet available online.
